EXPERIENCE

Jan has her Private voice degree from BYU where she studied with acclaimed Dramatic Opera Tenor, the late Ray Arbizu.

She has over 30 years of voice teaching experience.

She is an active member of NATS, MTNA, Festival, and AIM.

She teaches in both Musical theater (belt/mix/legit) and Classical styles (opera, folk, choral, sacred solo repertoire) classical with an emphasis on spinning tone, color, and interpretation.

Ray Arbizu and Kathryn Laycock Little were my principal teachers, with additional lessons and workshops with Gayle Lockwood, Anny Mooy, Kerilyn Johnson, and observing Robert Breault's private lessons and master classes up at the University of Utah.

The following choral directors have influenced her choral and ensemble aesthetic: Dr. Mack Wilberg (MTC), Dr. Ryan Murphy (MTC), Dr. Clyde Luke(Ricks College), Dr. Ronald Staheli(BYU) , Dr Donald Neuen(Eastman), Mark Pearce (SLVE), Kathryn Laycock Little(Grove Creek Choir).

Jan has performed in venues for recitals, house concerts, and musical theater productions in the state of Utah, including The Assembly Hall on Temple Square, Springville Art Museum Recital Series, State Chapel in Provo, private homes, and in recital venues in various Protestant and LDS churches throughout the country.

She sang and recorded with the audition choirs of BYU, Salt Lake Vocal Ensemble, Cathedral of the Madeleine, Canti con Brio (BYU Alumni Choir), and Eastman School of Music.

Jan sings Soprano with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on the weekly broadcasts of Music and the Spoken Word, and their seaonal concerts, where they average 75 performances a year.

Recently the Choir recorded Handel’s Messiah ,which will be out in February of 2015.

As a Choir member, she has performed with the following guest artists: Katherine Jenkins, Bryn Terfel, Deborah Voigt, Hal Halverson- The Candy Bomber, Tom Brokow, Jon Rhys Davies, Dallyn Vail Bayles, Nathan Pacheco, James Taylor, Santino Fantana

In 2012 she toured with the Choir in the MidWest and this coming summer 2015, they will tour in Washington DC, NYC, and Boston.

Jan and her organist husband, David also enjoy performing with their children each year on Christmas Eve at Zion Lutheran Church in SLC. They have performed together as a family since 1999.

STUDENTS’ ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Participation in NATS Adjudications held at BYU, advanced students placing 1st in their divisions (classical, legit, belt) and National level performance participation.

Acceptance into Music programs at Uof U Lyric Opera, BYU-MDT, SVU and BYU-I Classical Voice Programs.

Acceptance into the BYU audition choirs-BYU Singers, Concert Choir, Women's Chorus

Singing in the audition choirs at BYU, Uof U, BYU Idaho, SUU, Snow College

Music Scholarship to SVU (Southern Virginia University)

Participation and placing in Pageants.

Lead and Ensemble performances with the following Theater companies: Hale Center Theater-Orem, Pioneer Memorial Theater, Utah Lyric Opera Company, The Grove Theater, The SCERA Theater, The Playmill Theater-West Yellowstone, The Mystique - Pocatello, plus local Jr. High and High School Productions and continuing on with College, University, and post college productions.
